Norwegian artists Knut Åsdam and Lars Laumann will be showcasing their work at the Liverpool Biennial Festival this month.

Lars Laumann, will be exhibiting a new work alongside two existing ones. The new project, which was commissioned by Open Eye Gallery, is a video essay in two parts, called ‘Helen Keller (and the great purging bonfire of books and unpublished manuscripts illuminating the dark)’. It uses a range of techniques and approaches to discuss filmic and literary adaptation, multiple narratives, censorship and the burning of books.

Knut Åsdam, who is one of the eight artists chosen for NICE’s Nordic Pavilion at the ‘City States’ section of the festival, will be showing his brand new film for the first time during the Liverpool Biennial 2010. Åsdam investigates patterns of behaviour, with a particular focus on theories of disorder and social pathologies that are impacted upon by urban environments and architecture.

For ten weeks every two years the city of Liverpool is transformed into the most amazing living gallery of new art, showcasing the best contemporary artists from around the world. Established in 1998 and with 960,000 visits in 2008, the festival is one of the best attended in the world. According to the directors, Liverpool Biennial 2010 will see a continued emphasis on commissioning the most ambitious and challenging new work offering the largest concentration of contemporary art anywhere in the UK. The festival, which is now the UK’s largest contemporary visual event, will take place between September 18 and November 28.
