Is Britain ready for a Nordic revolution?

That is the question asked at the Festival of Politics in Edinburgh during a lecture featuring a pioneer of the Norwegian outdoor kindergarten system and a successful Swedish campaigner for women’s quotas in parliament.

The United Kingdom is increasingly searching for practical solutions to the economic and social problems produced by the current crisis of capitalism. Many UK political parties are cherry picking ideas from the Nordic countries - successful, adaptable, equal and community-based societies. But is Britain really ready for a Nordic revolution? Speakers include Henny Aune, a pioneer of the Norwegian outdoor kindergarten system, and Agneta Stark of Stödstrumporna - the successful Swedish campaign for women’s quotas in parliament. The lecture is chaired by Lesley Riddoch, co-founder of Nordic Horizons, writer, cyclist and broadcaster. This event is hosted in association with Nordic Horizons and with thanks to the Norwegian and Swedish Consulates in Scotland.

Now in its sixth year, the award winning Festival of Politics will run from Tuesday 17 to Saturday 21 August and includes 47 events, many of which feature famous faces, such as journalist and campaigner Martin Bell, political commentator Peter Kellner, and political elder-statesman Sir Malcolm Rifkind QC MP.
