The region of Haugesund is known as ‘Homeland of the Viking Kings’ and is credited with being the birthplace of Norway and the gateway to the country’s stunning fjords. Tore Gautesen, managing director of Visit Haugesund, said: “Just a 90-minute flight from Edinburgh, there is the chance to discover one of the most beautiful coastal areas of Norway. We offer exciting events and activities for conferences and seminars, not to mention the vibrant culture of the town of Haugesund and the majestic fjords.”
Haugesund is situated in the fjordland between the cities of Bergen and Stavanger. The city of Haugesund and the area of Haugalandet go back to the Viking era. The Viking king Harald Fairhair was living in this region when he gathered Norway to one Kingdom.
Only one hour from Haugesund Airport you could experience the spectacular waterfall of Langfoss by the Åkrafjorden. Further east lies the famous Hardangerfjord with the glacier Folgefonna, surrounded by a mixture of wilderness and quiet idylls. In the summertime you can join in on organized hiking trips in this region and boat trips on the fjord. A couple of hours from Haugesund Airport you will find ski resorts like Røldal, Sauda, Haukeli and Hovden. The slopes in Røldal are known as the powder-snow paradise. Haugesund is a rather young and vibrant city located by the seaside, with good restaurants, some of them on the lovely waterfront.
