The UK regional airline's new direct Oslo service on weekdays and Sundays follows on from the start of other Norwegian services over the last 18 months from Stavanger to Aberdeen and Newcastle demonstrating its commitment to expanding services from Norway.
Aberdeen, known as the Granite city, is one of Europe's major energy centres with its booming oil industry and offshore activity and is Scotland's third largest city. It is the gateway to the Grampian region and will appeal to Norwegian tourists taking golfing holidays, visiting the world famous malt whisky trail, the many fine historic castles, while the city centre is ideal for shopping trips.
Graeme Ross, Eastern Airways' Scotland director, said the launch was a significant stage in the airline's growth. "Today marks our first direct Aberdeen service from the Norwegian capital and this important link will meet the needs of both business and leisure travellers.
"We are always looking at new route opportunities and this latest service follows on from our other Norwegian services from Stavanger, which are well established since they first started operating. This new route from Oslo will help to further develop links in both the business and leisure sector in north east Scotland, while offering a wide choice of onward connections to UK cities from Aberdeen."
"After some time without any connection to Aberdeen, Oslo Airport is very pleased to welcome Eastern Airways as a new carrier on this destination", says the information manager at Oslo Airport, Jo Kobro. "We are also optimistic concerning the future since this will be a route for tourism as well as business."
It's over 11 years since Eastern Airways' network of services were initially developed around the North Sea oil and gas industry and the airline's second international service from Norway was launched in May 2008 from Stavanger to Newcastle. The twice daily Stavanger service to Aberdeen started in August 2007.
