Norway Day at Tarset Village Hall

Artist Imi Maufe is, in collaboration with Visual Arts in Rural Communities (VARC) and Tarset 2050, organising a Norway Day at Tarset Village Hall on the 8 March. ‘There is more to Norway than the Vikings’ is a cultural event where you can expect to find tasters of speciality foods, folk music and much more.

The program for Norway Day includes a ‘waffle café’ opening at 2pm, featuring artworks by children from local schools and the ‘Cabinet of Curiosities’, which is a collection of Norwegian objects and souvenirs gathered from local people. The afternoon will also include a display of Arctic photographs by Simon Fraser, storytelling by Frode Røynesdal, willow pipes workshop with Silje Hegg, singing workshop with Solbjørn Tveiten, as well as ways to keep warm in the winter and energy saving designs.

The evening will entail Norwegian food specialities with traditional music from Norwegian Tørvikbygd, and Sophy Ball and Hinny Pawsey from Newcastle.

The award winning Norwegian film ‘Kitchen Stories’ will be shown at Tarset Village Hall on 6 March.
